Bought internet stick at Tchibo, and can't activate/register?
Dec 3 2009, 2:41 PM EST
Hello, I bought a prepaid internet stick at $20 voucher at Tchibo, but when I plug it in the SIM can't activate on the network. I went to https://www.tchibo-mobil.de/registration to try and register online, but I'm just a frequent visitor and don't have a german bank account to use. How can I get this running?! They didn't ask me to fill out any forms at the store. Help appreciated! Thanks, - James 5 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

If you have any German friends have them call the service number so the company can activate the SIM. I only had to provide an address and my name when I registered my Tchibo SIM last year.

If you go to a Tchibo store and complaints they will help you with the form that is included in the pack - or they have a new one. This form must be faxed to the registration, the registration form on their website does not work (or it did not last summer)Registration with verified documentation of identity is now mandatory in EU. You must also in Germany provide a German address, use a camping or hotel it does not matter. After registration it takes an hour to get the sim working. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

James,Call Tchibos' service no.: (01149)(0)1805-977999 07.00am-09.00pm GMT. You don"t need a german account , for sure. Ask them ,they seem to be very helpfull. Good Luck! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Hello all,I have registered online with the help of my German friend. I suceeded to get connected, but for unknown reason my account was empty instead of the promissed 5 GB during the whole month. Did I do something wrong during the registration ? Unfortunately, I am already outside Germany and can't check what happened. What should I do, when I will be next time in Germany (in October) ? If I refill my account online, how can I assure this will not happen again ? Do you find this valuable? |

The free "Internet Flatrate XL" during the first month is only given to postpaid customers (Tchibo call their postpaid plans "Komfort"). If you have registered as prepaid customer, you get only the "Internet Flatrate L" during the first month, which is being throttled after exceeding 500MB.If you return to Germany, top up your balance and then order the Internet Flatrate L or XL by SMS as described on the wiki page above. Be aware, that if you do not subscribe to one of the data options, data will be billed with € 0.24/MB. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I indeed asked the Internet Flatrate XL, since it is explicitely proposed to prepaid customers ( Bei Komfort: Inkl. Internet-Flatrate XL - im 1. Monat gratis. Nach dem ersten Monat verlängert sich die Internet-Flatrate XL automatisch für € 19,95 / Monat.). So, I guess I did something wrong during the online registration. Now the question is whether or not this mistake will affect my next top up ? Can I check this point online ? Thanks. Do you find this valuable? |

Now the question is whether or not this mistake will affect my next top up ? Can I check this point online ? Thanks."As I told you in my last post, "Komfort" is postpaid. The promotion, which you quoted, is for postpaid customers in the "Komfort" tariff. Prepaid customers do only get the Internet Flatrate L for one month, as stated on Tchibo's website: "Bei Prepaid: Inkl. Internet-Flatrate L - im 1. Monat gratis. Nach dem ersten Monat verlängert sich die Internet-Flatrate L bei ausreichend Guthaben automatisch für € 9,95 / Monat. 1" I don't know what went wrong, but if you had registered successfully as prepaid customer you would have gotten the Internet Flatrate L automatically a couple of hours after registration. And if you had registered as postpaid customer you would have gotten the Internet Flatrate XL. So either you didn't register your SIM properly at all or you registered as postpaid customer, but your SIM has not been activated perhaps because you don't live in Germany and don't have a credit history ("Schufa"). Can you actually send or receive SMS with that SIM card? Anyway, I doubt anyone other than customer care themself can help you in order to find out the status of your SIM. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Thanks, I am trying to find out my status online. For me it is very strange that I could get registered as a postpaid customer without providing bank account and/or credit card data. This would be absolutely impossible in my country. Therefore I did not even suspect such an option.

Without providing a bank account you can't register as postpaid customer in Germany either. If you haven't done that, your SIM is rather registered as prepaid.

You're right ? Eventually I succeeded to get into my online Tchibo account and have realized (as much as I can using the Google translation) that I got registered as prepaid, but activated the XL option (therefore my credit was 0.01 Euro). So, it seems next time I only have to buy the Tchibo (or O2) voucher for at least 20 Euro and to top up my credit (still not sure whether I have to activate it again, but supposedly not). Thanks !

Last time I travelled in germany I had to open my flatrate with a sms message and close it on the exit also with a sms. In both cases you get a message back that you must reply to to start or stop this €19,90 a month service on prepaid. And obiouse they do not need to check credit history then you prepay. The only stumbling block is that you must use a valid german postal adress during registration. Some friends of my used the "Stellplazt" they had parked their motorhome that day - and it was OK!With prepaid and monthly services it is important to start and stop the service so it does not run then you are away from the country. A little anoying that you get a sms question back that you also must reply to before the switch is made. Do you find this valuable? |

Mgol bought his stick during the current promotion, which includes one month of the Internet-Flatrate L for free and afaik it should be activated automatically with registration.Data options can also be ordered through USSD-menu, as I explained at http://www.prepaidgsm.net/forum/europe/6143-tchibo-registration-problem.html#post33763 Tariff options will only recur if enough credit is left for the next month. If not the tariff options will automatically be cancelled after the end of the currrent billing period. So if you don't have enough credit left for the next month, you don't need to disable anything. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
