  • Iphone with tchibo prepaid card This informatiion is marvelous, I bought the Tchibo sim card and it works well with nmy Iphone 3 GS after some tries. In would advise using the 500MB rate. Though I have not tried the teethering I know that you need to download a software for that.
I was given this source in Thailand by DTAC staff as I have a unlimited plan.

  • Internet in Germany Please note, that Tchibo now offers a monthly flatrate on the O2 network for € 20/month, which is € 5 cheaper than O2 Loop, while technically it's the very same service. For more details check http://prepaid-wireless-internet-access.wetpaint.com/page/Germany+-+Tchibo

  • pre-paid wireless in Germany Tchibo has a prepaid 3g stick. 3.6 mb/sec 20€ per month no contract, unlimited downloads but after 10 GB goes down to 128kb/s . Or 10€ per month 500mb limit. Stick costs 50€ with one month internet access included. After that pay as you go. No strings no tricks. In most cases by far the cheapest option.

  • remaining volume Hey and greetings from germany :)

there is a possibility to check the remainig volume, if you use "MWConn" (just google for it ;) ). Its a nice little software, that allows you to use practically any SIM in your surfstick. At least it works with the HUAWEI E160 and the ZTE MF628 (vodafone WebSessions). so you can purchase a stick of your choice and buy a Tchibo SIM to get a prepaid flat for 20 €/30 days. :) Using it right now, even with a "normal" Tchibo SIM ;)

    have fun

  • Internet Access Yes, you just need to configure event.vodafone.de as APN, establish a connection and open some random web page. No matter what address you enter, you'll be redirected to the Vodafone WebSessions portal, where you can order your desired WebSession, which can be paid by the prepaid credit, special WebSession vouchers or directly by credit card. So if you own a credit card you don't need to top up your SIM's credit in order to use WebSessions, but you can pay directly for each session.
But you may also be interested in Fonic, who offer a dayflat for just € 2.50 (http://prepaid-wireless-internet-access.wetpaint.com/page/Germany+-+Fonic), however Fonic charges by day and not by 24 hours as Vodafone does. If you plan to access the internet on more than 4 days, you should consider getting a SIM from Tchibo (http://prepaid-wireless-internet-access.wetpaint.com/page/Germany+-+Tchibo), who offer 30 days for just € 19.95. During a promotional offer valid until May 12th, Tchibo offer their SIM card including 50 free minutes for the first month plus 10 free SMS monthly for the first year for absolutely free including free shipping. Unfortunately they ship only within Germany.
To order go to http://www.tchibo.de/maedchen put the SIM into your shopping cart ("in den Warenkorb legen"), check out ("Warenkorb / Kasse") and enter "NEWSIM" as discount code (input field below "Geschenkkarte / Gutschein einlösen") and redeem it ("einlösen").

  • O2 Loop Internet for Tourists Been living in exile in the USA for 22 years, and returned to Berlin recently (last week). I was pleasantly surprised to have so many choices for voice/data communications. Decided on O2 loop because of price and flexibility.

For mobile data in the US I typically use my Motorola Z9 phone (AT&T exclusive) as a tethered modem with HSDPA access. Tried the same in Berlin, but unfortunately it didn't work well on the O2 network. I only had sub-par (GPRS) dial-up modem speed, which was very disappointing. Anybody know why ?

I am a budget customer and pure data plans are very expensive in the US. AT&T offers a 5 GB data plan using a USB/PCMCIA card for $60/mo. The only other choice is MediaNet for $15/mo and very limited data use.

Are there known compatibility problems with HSDPA in the US versus Europe ? I have decided to buy an unlocked UMTS/HSUPA card (Option GT Max W) for future vists to Germany/Europe and hope to be able to use a pre-paid O2 data plan to get fast access at reasonable prices. It supports 2100 Mhz carrier signals and is meant for global compatibility. Will this work ?

There is no prepaid data plans in the US that come close to what O2 (or E-Plus/Vodaphone) delivers. I love the flexibility and price levels. I hope O2 enters the US market and challenges our monopolistic landscape. T-Mobile tries, but they are just now entering the 3G market and are distant 4th in terms of market share.

    Comments and recommendations are appreciated.
