United Kingdom - T-MobileThis is a featured page

Overview:

Several options are available:

  • Mobile Phone Use: For "Pay as you go plans" the default option "Web´n´Walk" is billed with 0.73p per KB Capped at £1 (€1.50) a day. The option is activated by default.

  • Mobile phone use: There is also a 5 day pass available for £2.50 (€3.75) which is activated by sending and SMS containing the text "Web" to the short code 441. On the fifth day an SMS is sent when the option has expired.

  • PC use: Mobile Broadband plans on pay as you go are available for daily, weekly or monthly use (see further below)

More details for the first two (mobile phone) options:

For details see the T-Mobile Homepage then click at "Quick Guide to Costs" and "Terms and Conditions"

You could get a SIM free for free by filling out the form on T-mobile website and it will be sent to your UK address.

There is a "Fair Use Policy" :

Charges of 0.73p per KB apply until £1 per day (midnight to midnight) is spent. If you have already spent £1 and you browse for a continuous period from before midnight to after midnight, all of that period will be charged at the new day's rate of 0.73p per KB. * To ensure a high quality of service for all our customers a fair use policy of 40MB (of data both sent and received in the UK) per day applies. We monitor use on a monthly basis. If, in our reasonable opinion, you regularly exceed 40MB per day, we may tell you to reduce your future use. If you again regularly exceed 40 MB per day, we may tell you that we are going to apply network protection controls, resulting in a reduced network speed for 14 days. If you exceed 40 MB per day for a third time, we may tell you that we are going to apply further network protection controls, resulting in a permanently reduced network speed. We do not permit use of this service to provide modem access for a computer or for peer to peer file sharing, internet phone calls or instant messaging.

How to buy Top up Cards:

  • Buy a topup voucher (coupon), following the instructions on the voucher and topup. It is available in Supermarket (Tesco, Sainsburys) and Bookstore (WHSmith).
  • Use a E-topup card that usually comes with your SIM card.
  • Register on T-Mobile website and topup with your credit card.

Roaming

  • T-Mobile is also a cheaper way of data roaming in different countries in Europe especially you are using applications like Google Maps that is not so data intensive as browsing web site.
  • With Europe Boost it only costs 1 pound per MB when abroad (33% off). Helpful if you are traveling different countries but each for 3 days alike.
Misc:

  • GPRS APN address: general.t-mobile.uk
  • Gateway (IP) address :149.254.1.10
  • Username : user
  • Password: wap
  • Session type: Continuous / permanent
  • Port number: 8080
  • Authentication: Normal

The PC Mobile Broadband Options:

  • 2 pounds a day
  • 7 pounds a week
  • 15 pounds a month
Further details are given here. The page doesn't say if it works with any pay-as-you-go SIM or if the 3G USB dongle that is advertised on the page has to be bought in addition. Also, the page does not say which APN to use. Further, activation of the offers are not really described. Here's a link of how a previous 5 day offer was activated, maybe it will work similar for these options (?)

there's two things missing from the article:
1. you can top up your sim at ATM-s as well. topping up using a creditcard at their website will only work if you have a UK credit card.
2. you either need to have a phone which has an auto-configuration option, or you need to know how to set up your connection. autoconfig works on most new nokias, windows mobile 6+, etc. The connection name should be T-Mobile Internet, the modem is GPRS/3G, and the access point name is general.t-mobile.uk. the username is T-mobile, password, domain are blank. make sure to disable proxy settings: Active Sync and IE will not work if the Proxy is enabled.
