Hyper.Net Option

After activating the "hyper.net" option on a standard MTS prepaid SIM card, internet costs 0.05 UAH (less than one cent) per MB plus 5 UAH (less than one euro/ about one dollar) for any day the internet is used.

Activation
Prepaid subscribers only need to send a free of charge SMS to number 1040007 or use USSD query: to dial on their handset *109*217# and press the call button.

The information is still generally accurate as of August 2009. The megabyte price has changed to 0.1 UAH per MB.

Another issue is speed and network quality. EDGE is available everywhere (no 3G!) and maximum speed is 25kBs down with sometimes terrible latency up to 3000ms (the best values are around 600-700ms). The upload speed is usually slower, but this varies from time to time and from palce to place.

The UMC/MTS network in Kiev is heavily loaded, so connection can slow down significantly depending on daytime or be lost/disconnected. Often it is difficult to download a file larger than 20MB and such activities should be shifted into hours after 22:00/10PM.
