I purchased a Slingshot Prepaid modem in February. i was thrilled to get broadband after being online dialup for 2 1/2 years. Now I regret purchasing the modem. First, the modem's built-in flash drive was never accessible by my computer. Second, the modem would deactivate frequently while plugged into my USB port. I would hear the "hardware removed" sound and the modem's green LED would be off. I would have to remove and plug the modem back in to get my computer to detect it again. This doesn't happen with my other USB devices.
The last straw was this past Friday, when I was suddenly disconnected from the service for no reason. I used the Connection Manager software to try to log back in. I clicked Connect. it said "connecting", but instead of connecting, it simply went back to "device is ready". It has been that way ever since. Slingshot does not respond to their contact form or emails. They are virtually impossible to reach on the phone, either with their Arizona number or the 866 number. All I get is a busy signal, a perpetually ringing phone or a recording telling me to call back later. I will wait for either Cricket to bring their prepaid broadband to my area or for Virgin Mobile USA to introduce a prepaid broadband service. These are at least known companies that can actually be reached. |

Has anyone here used Slingshot? Does the hardware/software work well? How is the signal, speed, etc.?
Thank you. |
