Check out T-Mobile's Prepaid Sidekick plan - that will get you unlimited data with voice at .15/min. Since it's not AT&T, and they don't yet support iPhone, they shouldn't have any sniffers or blocks against iPhone. It's $1/day each day you access (minimum $30), and there are some moderate additional fees.

I tried to run my iPhone using an AT&T prepaid card, and it did not work. Called 611 and they told me that, as of June 15 2009, they do not allow iPhones using prepaid. My card did also not work with various other unlocked phones. I finally went to the AT&T store because I thought that maybe the card was locked to one particular phone, but it _did_ work with other prepaid phones.I am not sure how they can tell what kind of phone I use - they probably check on the IMEI.
Workaround: You can get a regular contract with AT&T as well as with t-mobile and go month to month. You do not have to subscribe to a 24-month-contract. The cheapest option seems to start at about 60 USD a month.

I have checked the WEB Page from AT&T and unfortunately the data options aren't anymore available for Pay-As-You Go. You are only able to get the data option with the Pick Your Plan option. That is a kind of prepaid and postpaid mixture

The website for ATT Go Phone does not list unlimited data as a plan option, however if you call 611 from your Go Phone and listen tot he list of features, the unlimited option is still available, or was as recently as October first.

AT&T is now offering iPhone customers global data plans. The nice thing is that they're not contractual which means you can turn one of the plans on before a trip and then turn it off again when your travel is completed. Before you leave on your trip you can reset the data meter setting to zero making it easy to check to see how much data you've used so far on your trip. $24.99/month: 20MB Data Global Plan gives you 20MB** of usage within 41 countries* $59.99/month: 50MB Data Global Plan gives you 50MB*** of usage within 41 countries* They have a variety of similar plans for other phones and for laptops. Here is a link http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/international/roaming/affordable-world-packages.jsp?WT.svl=calltoaction#iphone-international

Note: These offers are probably just for post paid contracts, NOT for prepaid!
