Ireland -- Vodafone
Vodafone Irend now offers Mobile Internet Access for 99 euro cents a day via their prepaid SIMs. On their web pages they state that all traffic passes through a proxy that will adapt web pages to mobile format. While it seems that all pages on the Internet can be accessed they will all be transcoded. The offer is good for up to 50 MB a day. The offer does not say if POP and SMTP for eMail are possible.
THIS OFFER IS FOR MOBILE BROWSING ONLY, IT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR USE WITH A PC.
APN to use: live.vodafone.com
The web page does not list a proxy to be set in the phone so they are probably doing transparent content adaptation...
T&Cs mention that they are breaking up SSL connections: "When you are viewing pages through a secure link using the Service, whilst the link is still secure you will not be able to verify a web site's SSL certificate as we have to modify the page. You agree that we can do this."
Comment: if I can't verify the SSL certificate it is not secure in my opinion as Vodafone servers will be able to see the content of the secure web page. I think the T&Cs are very ambiguous about this fact...
