India - Airtel
April 2008:
Airtel prepaid sim can only be bought and activated when you register your name with passport (best in the shop where it's bought). Then send a message "GPRSACT" to a dedicated number (look it up in the little brochure that comes with the sim). They'll then send the necessary profile to your mobile (it takes a while). This will allow unlimited internet access and downloads for 15 Rps a day (around 20p).
I've also used the same sim in an unlocked Vodafone dongle (Laptop Modem):
APN: airtelgprs.com
username: <empty>
password: <empty>
access no: *99***1#
I had to call their customer service though to have it "switched on" for Goa.
