Internet MAX is gone, now only per day or per weekend. Tried the € 3,- per day option with a Nokia N95 8Gb as WIFI router and VPN encryption. Works pretty well. Day starts at moment of activation and expires at 2pm the next day. Sometimes an SMS is shipped to announce the expiration.

Mas Movil Vs Yoigo

Hey Guys,
I was the one who posted 'best prepaid sims to use in spain for internet' and i thought I would give you an update.
Upon hearing that MasMovil also had a reasonable deal, I went to Phone Warehouse and purcahsed one for 20 euro. The good thing about it is that your 20 euro will give you a sim card and, 20 euro credits to boot. The cost per MB is about .05 which is excellent if you are a casual user. But if you are a heavy user, Yoigo will still be the best bet. But, let me share my experiences.
Upon purcahsing the MasMovil card, you have to present your orginal Passport. After this, you have to call their customer service line and ask to talk to someone in English. In my case, I got my sim card at around 11AM and, the callback came at around 6PM the same day. Your internet will be useless until they give you a callback so this is quite annoying.
After this, they will ask you a series of security questions about your passport, etc. etc. This is more troublesome compared to the process with Yoigo where you were up and running a few minutes after you get your sim.
Another difference with MasMovil is, if you transfer the sim to another phone, the internet setting will not transfer to the other phone and, I found it hard to find the configuration. This was not the case with Yoigo where, if you transfer to another phone, Yogio will automatically send you the settings. Pretty cool.
However, the downside of Yoigo is when you use it with your laptop. In my experince, it was REALLY SLOW. This was not the case with MasMovil. When I plugged it into my laptop, it was very fast in 3G areas.
So there you have it. If you are using the internet primarily for phone browsing and fring, etc, Yoigo seems to be the cheaper bet. But, if you plan to use it for the computer, MasMovil is faster, but more expensive.
Hope this helps someone out there

I also found the price higher than announced, and have requested how I can get into the flatrate they offer at masmovil - 20 euro for 1GB in a month is not bad and 3 cent a MB on the excess is not to bad. I return with an update when they have answered me. The only way I have found so far demands a spanish bankaccount, but they offer an automatic recharge on the prepay card.

Anyone know if I can take my 3TimeLarge account and use it in Austria? I have the USB dongle and can connect most places in Italy. I've heard about data package roaming being free or cheap on certain carriers when in Austria or Germany.

I've been using this system for a few months in Italy and although the allowance is quite good, the service is poor. Initially it took me a week and almost €90 to get it activated, but that's another story. As we have three italian sims, when we used up our bundle on this sim, we had no way of checking the date the bundle would refresh. Once out of your bundle, any spare credit is taken from your sim at the rate of €10 per megabytes, €1000 per Gb!! You need to make sure you have enough credit the day before your month ends or it will stop with insufficient credit. When you then recharge it you have no way of knowing when it is re-activated as you receive no notification even though your credit may or may not reduce! Buy one, keep within your bundle and set reminders to keep it topped up. DO NOT precharge it with thre months credit for example as you may loose it all very quickly!

There is no (official) possibility to use an iPhone as modem without permission from your mobile provider. Only t-mobile iPhone users can do tethering (paying 20EUR/month for the possibility + 3GB of extra traffic). Howewer, if you jailbreak (keyword: blackra1n) your device, the iPhone-as-modem usage can be enabled.

Hey guys,
Just spent 3 weeks in Spain and I thought I would give you the low down on the prepaid Sim services:
1) Yoigo- Best overall value. I use fringe a lot and Yoigo pretty much gave me wall to wall coverage on the Camino de Santiago from Sarria to Santiago Compostela. And at 1.50 euro a day, that pretty incredible value.
2) Vodafone-Second best value. From where I went, (including Picos de Europa Area in Asturias) they had the best 3G coverage. Plus, thye give you all these free credits and stuff. The major kicker here is I am now in Greece, and I am using fringe using my Vodafone.es sim here. Pretty cool. Get the data plans that are practically unlimited on a weekly or monthly basis.
3) Movistar-could see no major difference with them and Vodafone. Plus the tariffs are expensive and they don't give any freebies.

I see this was over a year ago, but I had bought one last year in Sept - tried to just buy the sim and they did try it with my unlocked 3 dongle in the store in Calais, but it wouldn't work, so I ended up buying a dongle - then €99 - and was told that if I needed - next year (this) I could just buy the sim for 29.90 - well this year on 1st Sept I was again at Calais, only they no longer sell just the sim anyway, even if you have the hardware, so I had to buy another dongle, exactly the same - but for €29.90 - so same price .... daft or what... and am still not too happy with it. There is now no longer a €75 topup online or instore.... and I used it purely for emailing.... Carol
